Student Council Positions and Duties

 

The Student Body of St. Francis' School, Grades 4 through 8 will elect an eight member Board of Commissioners that will serve as school representatives of the Student Council.  Only students going into Grades 7 and 8 will be eligible to run for office on the Board of Commissioners.  Elections for the Board of Commissioners will be held in the spring of the preceding year. (May/June)

1.  Commissioner General (President) - Must be in eighth grade while in office.  Must have an "B" in behavior.  Must have a "B" average.  Supervises all student body activities.  Presides over all student body assemblies.  Represents the school in student body activities with other schools.  Presides over all meetings of the Board of Commissioners.

2.  Assistant Commissioner General (Vice-President) - Must be a seventh or eighth grader while in office.  Must average a "B" with an "A" in conduct.  Serves in the absence of the Commissioner General and aids in the supervision of all student body activities.  Acts as parliamentarian during Student Council meetings.

3.  Commissioner of Finance (Treasurer) - Keeps an accurate record of the student body account and expenditures.  Reports to the Commissioners at each meeting (expenditures, income and balance.)

4.  Secretary - Keeps and accurate record of all Student Council Meetings.  Makes copies of minutes and distributes to Commissioners, faculty, and principal Prepares Thank You notes.  Prepares the agenda for meeting along with the moderator and Commissioner General.  Collects attendance.

5.  Commissioner of School Spirit and Athletics - Organizes and plans school rallies.  Helps takes charge of Big Sister Big Brother Day.  Helps set up for all home games.  Assists commissioner of Publicity in publicizing the games.  Helps organize and implement the faculty versus student volleyball game.  Takes charge of athletic equipment during recess and sports activities.

6.  Commissioner of Religious Affairs - Conducts prayers at school events.  helps with student body masses as needed.  Assists in morning prayer.  Helps with Holy Childhood Drive.  Organize Thanksgiving Food Drive.

7.  Commissioner of Safety and Ecology - Assist with school safety program (Fire/Earthquake) Establish and implement a student monitoring system to supervise the lunch area.  Develop an ecological program for the school (recycling, proper disposal of trash, no-waste program - food, paper, etc.)

8.  Commissioner of Publicity and Public Relations - Takes charge of publicizing all school activities and events. (Bulletin, flyers, posters) Take charge of audio - visual equipment within the school.  Assist the Commissioner of School Spirit and Athletics in publicizing games (banners, etc.)

All of the above are elected in the spring (May/June) of the preceding school year.

Commissioner-at-Large (Grades 4 through 8)

The Commissioners-at-Large are elected in September by their own grade level.  Students must have an average of "B" and behavior of "B".  Duties are:  Communicates each meeting to the class/es they represent.  Serve on committees for the Board of Commissioners.  Communicates any student suggestions, ideas, etc. to Board of Commissioners.
